A Skinned Knee

cargopants

Nadine slumped on her walk today. Nothing serious, she only tore her cargo pants, skinned her knee and smashed a few of the berrys she purchased from an allotment holder on her way. Being unstable on her feet all the time, she already stumbled a few times, but never fell before.

I suppose this happened because she’s feeling quite exhausted these days. My guess is that constant chemotherapy is starting to wear her out. We have all reasons to believe that the twenty sessions she went through since January were extremely helpful, but they are maybe taking their toll now.

Two more sessions are scheduled for the first half of September, then there will be another brain scan followed by a meeting with the doctor. Maybe we should ask him for a little timeout from treatment so that she can regain strength?  A break would also come in handy with a holiday in the south…

Next Stop Todtmoos?

wehrawald

When we returned from our trip to Finland, we got word from the Deutsche Rentenversicherung (DRV) that Nadine is allowed to a rehabilitation measure at the Wehrawald clinic Todtmoos in the Black Forest. They were planning to have her for three weeks starting on September 21st.

When I phoned the clinic, it became clear that this won’t be possible until Nadine’s chemotherapy is finished. She is going to have two more sessions in September followed by another examination of her head. Further treatment will be planned when the results are available. Due to the unclear situation, the DRV postponed the rehabilitation at least until mid-November.

Athough Nadine will definitely go to Todtmoos, I hope this won’t be her next stop. I still got a few days off for autumn and we’re hoping to spend them in Spain and Southern France in October and November.

A Sunny Finale

We’re in Lappeenranta now where we stay in my father’s flat for one night. Tomorrow we will travel to Helsinki in order to catch our flight back home.

The last day on Kylänieme had perfect weather. We went for another row in the morning and spent the whole afternoon sitting on the pier listening to music on Nadine’s iPad.

On the way to Lappeenranta we made a stop at Kattelussaari, another island on the Lake Saimaa where Arija and my father are planning to built their own Mökki next year. So maybe we will never return to Kyläniemi again…
